Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammy Awards ceremony held on Feb 1, for their work on “Defying Gravity,” which serves as the finale of Wicked: Part One.

The win marks Grande’s third Grammy Award. She last won in 2021 for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Rain on Me,” her collaboration with Lady Gaga. Erivo, meanwhile, received her first Grammy in 2017 for Best Musical Theater Album for the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, making this her second Grammy win.

“Defying Gravity” is a central number from Wicked, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. In the film adaptation, Erivo plays the green-skinned, defiant Elphaba, while Grande portrays the ambitious and effervescent Glinda.

The Grammy recognition arrives alongside a contrasting awards outcome for the film franchise. Wicked: For Good, the sequel and concluding chapter of the two-part screen adaptation, received no nominations at the Academy Awards in 2026.

Both films are based on the long-running Broadway musical, itself adapted from Gregory Maguire’s novel, which has remained a fixture of international theatre stages for more than two decades.
